While doing routine oil change maintenance I was surprised to find the engine oil plug was only finger tight. A solution was needed. I decided to install safety wire through the oil plug.
First I removed the oil plug and, using a vise clamp to hold the plug. (yellow arrow photograph below) I drilled a small hole through the oil plug head. I also replaced the copper sealing washer with a reusable generic plastic washer.
The hole should allow the safety wire to pass through.
I fabricated a right angle bracket from flat stock. Drill two holes to accept the oil pan bolt and the safety wire. Mount to the oil pan using an existing bolt. (yellow arrow photographed below).
Tighten the oil plug and feed the safety wire through the plug hole.
Wrap wire around fabricated bracket. Problem solved. This plug will never come loose from the oil pan.
